Play Your Position with Mary Lou Kayser

Today, my guest is Chad T Jenkins, a visionary wizard who knows how to alchemize friction into gold for entrepreneurs and companies all over the world looking to grow through innovation.

He recently launched his latest book, Friction Fuel [the secret to listening strategically and leveraging complaints to keep your business running on premium]. We talk a lot about his books; he has another one: Just Add a Zero, which I also highly recommend.

What's cool about Chad is he offers simple frameworks you can use to expand your leadership skills, as well as some practical exercises you can do today to tap into new ideas and an endless stream of innovation.

This is a really fun episode. It's rare that I get to talk to two amazing guests at the same time. "Mike&Bo" aka Mike Merrigan and Bo Kort are best friends and they also have built a successful real estate investment portfolio together that funds their freedom. Over the past 30 years, Mike and Bo have acquired hundreds of properties and built over 43 companies. Now, they want to teach others how two small-town guys from Arizona did it—and how you can too. Are you fed up with the typical financial freedom "gurus"? Mike & Bo are the breath of fresh air you've been so desperately needing.

These guys are the real deal! Connect with Mike & Bo here: https://mikeandbo.biz/

How do you get people to trust you when they don’t even know you? If you aren’t a thought leader, you’re a commodity. There’s no middle ground. And the most powerful, exciting, and fun way to rescue yourself from the commodity trap is by having a book of your own.

My guest today is New York Times bestselling author and the world’s most experienced ghostwriter Michael Levin, who is responsible for the writing, editing, planning, and publishing of more than 1,000 books over a 30-year career. He has written for the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, HuffPost, LA Times, Boston Globe, and many other top outlets.

Michael's ghostwriting clients include Boeing and Ford CEO Alan Mulally, baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, motivational speaker Zig Ziglar (he edited Zig’s last book), NFL legend Pat Summerall, and countless other leaders in business, sports, broadcasting, real estate, finance, insurance, and many other fields.

Today, Michael is going to talk about how you can get your own book done quickly and easily…even without employing a ghostwriter.

Anna Maria Ponzi is the former owner and past president of Ponzi Vineyards in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. From the age of four, she’s had the rare experience of working in every aspect of the winery. She helped plant its original vines, worked on the bottling line, hosted guests in the tasting room and has made countless national and international sales calls. Anna Maria has served the state’s wine industry in myriad ways, including serving as an early ambassador for Oregon wine both nationally and internationally while building Oregon wine country into a travel destination.

After earning her degree in journalism from the University of Oregon, she worked in Boston’s publishing industry until returning to the rural family business in 1991. Soon after, she was joined by her winemaking sister and the two young women trailblazed the growing tide of female vintners. Simultaneously, they grew the business from an annual production of 10,000 to over 50,000 cases and increased its vineyard holdings from 20 to 140 acres. This ownership distinguished Ponzi Vineyards as the nation’s only winery solely owned and operated by second-generation sisters at the time.

She is recognized for establishing a premiere travel destination with the opening of the valley’s first seated wine experience among other visitor attractions in the area. Her memoir ‘Pinot Girl’ was released in celebration of the winery’s 50th Anniversary in 2020. A year later, she and her sister successfully negotiated the sale of the winery to the esteemed French house Société Jacques Bollinger of Champagne, France. In 2023, she created “The Four-Ounce Pour”, a keynote that reflects on her life in wine and how bringing intentionality and balance into our lives creates greater meaning and impact.

In today's episode, David and I explore the profound journey of leadership and how it evolves with time.

Reflecting on his own path, David has come to realize that leadership isn't just about titles or positions—it's a dynamic journey that evolves with time and experience. From his early days in the Boy Scouts, where he first tasted leadership responsibility, to building and leading teams in his business ventures, every step has been a lesson in growth and accountability. What's truly fascinating is how his perception of leadership has shifted—from leading himself to guiding a team, and now, nurturing leadership qualities in his own son.

One of the big takeaways for David about leadership as he reflects on his own journey is this:

Leadership isn't confined to the boardroom; it extends into our personal lives, shaping our roles as parents and mentors. Embracing this multifaceted aspect of leadership brings richness to our experiences and opportunities for continuous improvement. Let's remember, leadership is not just about leading others—it's about inspiring growth, fostering resilience, and embracing responsibility at every turn.

About David Braithwaite

With several years of experience as an Associate Coach for Strategic Coach® and as a financial planner, David Braithwaite has built a reputation for his empathetic approach to coaching and facilitating meaningful conversations. He is a regular guest on BBC radio and TV and has even hosted his own BBC show, “On The Air With David Braithwaite.” He has also spoken at various conferences around the world with audiences up to 14,000.

David has a remarkable ability to connect with people and help them achieve their life goals by creating a supportive and safe environment where they can grow. As a coach and successful entrepreneur, David’s real-life experiences provide valuable insights for his clients and listeners.

Michele Hecken is an ex-CEO who helps high-performing leaders design an organization where each person spends at least 80% of their time working on things they love.

She calls herself a contagious optimist, lover of freedom, shifter of paradigms, lifelong learner, and artist. Michele built, operated, scaled, and exited a successful business in the translation industry. She is an Entrepreneur at heart who moves fast, can’t sit still, and is addicted to personal and professional growth. Today she serves as an Advisor to high performers who want to run businesses that serve them and live lives they dream of. Features in media outlets including Inc. Jason Brown is a big fan of Jim Rohn's quote: " Use the past as a school, not a club. Don't beat yourself up!" In today's episode, you will hear Jason's leadership story including how he managed to turn an investment that didn't work out into his life's calling -- and how he helps others take charge of their financial futures.

Jason Brown is a finance graduate from Wayne State University with over a decade of experience in stocks and options trading. At the young age of 23, Jason started trading with a $10,000 student loan and grew it into a six-figure trading account. His passion for teaching others about stock market investing led him to create his own online education company “Power Trades University” which has helped thousands of students worldwide to start investing.

Jason is an active YouTuber with over 80,000 subscribers and his videos have reached over 1 million views. He is also the host of the “Money, Markets and Mindset Podcast”. Jason believes that anyone can profit from the stock market if they know what to look for, and how to spot low-risk but high-reward times to buy and sell combined with the right option strategies to supercharge returns and minimize risk.
