What does it take to optimize a small business for scale?

For many small business owners, scaling can feel overwhelming and out of reach. In today's episode, I talk with Paul Jackson who sees things very differently. Paul is the Founder and CEO at Method — the complete process automation tool for businesses that use QuickBooks and Xero. He believes that building small business software with a one-sizefits-all mentality is lazy and outdated. This firm belief, paired with his experience as a self-taught coder and entrepreneur, resulted in Paul’s empathy for small business owners. It also sparked his passion for changing the software landscape. While living in a bike shed during university, Paul built and sold his first business, QXpress (a field service scheduling app).

After that, Paul started Method, a company driven to equalize the future of small business technology. Method is an entirely customizable platform for small businesses that want to simplify their unique way of working. Method is best known for its flagship product, Method:CRM.

As the co-founder and CEO of Groove, an online coworking community and mobile app for solopreneurs, Josh is building on his passion for community to help transform the way people on wavy career paths (solopreneurs, freelancers, creatives) can find support and human connection to help them accomplish great things.

Josh’s career itself follows a wavy path — after working as an engineer, he studied meditation as a way to combat his burnout, spending time learning at ashrams in India. He brought together his spiritual practices with bringing people together through cultural events and programming as Managing Director at London’s Village Underground and working on festivals like Wilderness Festival.

He continued freelancing as a strategy and innovation consultant. He believes in work-life harmony — how we work shapes how we live, and vice versa. He experienced this firsthand as an exec at WeWork in the office of the CEO working across the business.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Josh and his co-founders saw that the world had changed, along with our traditional work systems. Groove was created as a response to that, and is here to support the next generation of solopreneurs as they break open the ideas of how we can connect and work on energizing projects.

The business landscape gets noisier every day which makes getting found, getting noticed, and getting bigger problems most face.

What's a company to do?

According to Kevin Maney, the answer is category design. In today's episode of the Play Your Position Podcast, Kevin explains just what category design is, why it matters, plus so much more about what it takes to succeed today in business.

Kevin Maney is co-author of Play Bigger and has been a bestselling author and award-winning columnist writing about technology for three decades. That allows him to bring broad and deep context to Category Design conversations.

Kevin’s most recent book is Intended Consequences, co-authored with his long-time collaborator, Hemant Taneja, who runs the VC firm General Catalyst. His other books with Hemant are UnHealthcare: A Manifesto for Health Assurance, which proposes a new category of healthcare, and the 2018 book Unscaled: How AI and a New Generation of Upstarts Are Creating the Economy of the Future.

He also authored The Two-Second Advantage (a 2011 New York Times best seller), Trade-Off: Why Some Things Catch On and Others Don't, and The Maverick and His Machine: Thomas Watson Sr. and the Making of IBM.

Every leader knows doing everything ourselves is a cardinal sin...yet so many of us continue to insist "no one else can do what we do as well as we can do what we do."

Yikes. This mindset gets a lot of us into scalding hot water when we could be leisurely swimming in a pool that's at just the right temperature.

In today's conversation with the Chief Revenue Officer for BELAY, Lisa Seal guides us through the process of handing over tasks and systems to capable allies who want to help us grow our businesses. And here's the thing -- delegation is a skill we can use in EVERY aspect of our lives, including running our homes, managing our families, and the like.

Lisa utilizes her vast experience in growth management across several industries and various sales environments to work with sales professionals, empowering them to achieve – and exceed – their targets and help organizations grow.

A major goal of Lisa’s is helping clients climb higher by giving them the space, time, and energy to grow their business. Aiming beyond increasing profits, Lisa helps businesses increase their reach, provide more jobs, and prioritize their loved ones over their time in the office.

She believes that team collaboration and a healthy culture are the core of every department, allowing for extraordinary organizational growth. She is a goal-driven, thoughtful, competitive, compassionate leader with a profound love of learning and reading.

It is her mission to encourage others so they may achieve all that they dream.

John Ovrom is the President and Founder of Exit Consulting Group, Inc. (ECG). He founded the company on a simple principle – the desire to help fellow entrepreneurs. What started as John helping friends and previous business connections, quickly evolved into a consulting business, and the creation of The Ovrom Group, that became the Exit Consulting Group, Inc. in 2009. John has an entrepreneurial spirit, and is constantly coming up with new, inspiring, creative, and innovative ideas.

A serial entrepreneur, John founded his first company OSSO Construction, Inc. in 1991, and ran the custom home remodeling company, along with several additional construction-based companies, for 14 years with his dad and cousin. After going through the process of selling his company, he realized the need for a service provider who can step into the business, develop a strategic exit plan, and manage the transition.

John is truly passionate about helping people and solving problems. His fearless persistence, openness, honesty, and intelligence make him an immense asset to his clients. He approaches problems by starting with the solution and working backwards. Always searching for the “win”, he asks the same question of clients and staff alike: “How can we use your strengths to best solve this problem?”

Besides his entrepreneurial work, John supports the Rotary Club International, serving his Coronado club in varying capacities, including President, and he served as past president of the Coronado Chamber of Commerce. One of John’s greatest joys was coaching his sons’ sports teams while they were growing up, including basketball, soccer, and baseball.

John’s favorite activities include fishing, lobster diving, hiking, travel, hanging out with his family, and spending as much time as possible playing in Baja, Mexico.

John’s WIN is creating long-lasting value for his clients by finding unique, effective solutions to business challenges.

In Part 2 of my conversation with MiMi Chau, a Business and Transformation Coach + Reiki Master, MiMi and I dive into some deeper topics about success, embracing change, and love including:

  • The differences between masculine and feminine energy and what we need to know about each kind for generating success in business and life;
  • Why everyone has both kinds of energy present at all times regardless of how you identify;
  • What each kind of energy means to us as leaders at work and in the home;
  • "Third Love" -- what it is, how to find it, and why it's the most powerful kind of love of all
  • Moving beyond trauma to fully receive our truest calling

Plus, MiMi leads us through a fantastic meditation so if you can, listen to this episode in a place where you can safely close your eyes to get the full experience. Please don't close your eyes if you are driving!

MiMi Chau first appeared here on the Play Your Position Podcast in 2014.

A lot has happened in MiMi's life since then!

In Part 1 of my conversation with MiMi Chau, MiMi shares the latest iteration of her leadership journey.

Not only did she meet her soulmate Henry since the last time we talked, but she had her son and a few business experiences that didn't work out.

Today, MiMi is a Business and Transformation Coach + Reiki Master who helps clients honor their Divine Feminine in all aspects of their lives, including health, business, and love.

Through business coaching combined with holistic healing methods like Reiki to create balance, and manifest true potential for a fulfilling life, MiMi guides clients to trust their intuition, get clear on their soul purpose, and take action to create the life they desire.

The traditional concept of hustle is associated with masculinity and a focus on achievement, often at the cost of personal well-being and maybe at the cost of your piece of mind. Balancing this with feminine energy, which emphasizes balance, intuition, and self-care can lead to a more fulfilling and successful life. It involves finding a balance between drive, focus, determination and compassion, love, joy, service, and self-care.

As a mother, entrepreneur, coach, intuitive healer, spiritual seeker, and plant-medicine woman, MiMi has a passion for empowering and uplifting women. Founder of start-up Goddess Playground, MiMi is committed to deepening human connections in communities where people support each other.

In today's episode, I share a couple of ways to do this so that you can benefit from an increase in intelligent self-talk.

Formulas are great for chemical companies.

Recipes come in handy when you’re looking to make something you’ve never made before. Like a 3 layer orange lemon sunrise surprise cake.

Step by steps are excellent ways of learning new, useful skills.

But here’s the thing about formulas.

Their success and execution depend on any number of variables that are often not in our control.

Getting the exact same results as the original is possible but not common.

Eventually you have to learn how to rely on your inner compass to get you where you want to go.

Tim Tortora started working in Hollywood over 30 years ago as a tape operator in a recording studio and worked his way up through the ranks to CFO by 2008. He learned a lot along the way and worked with some amazing people and some of the biggest companies ( Harpo Films, Mandalay Entertainment, Sony Pictures, Disney, TriStar Pictures, Columbia Pictures). He did it all having no family connection or friends who sat in key positions in the business.

Since he started working as a CFO in 2008, the industry changed substantially and his client list migrated to working with content creators who produce indie features, TV movies, feature films, branded content, blogs and online short form series.

During his career, Tim has served as Executive in Charge of Production and Finance for Oprah Winfrey’s feature film & TV production arm, Harpo Films, in charge of all aspects of production on such films as “Tuesdays With Morrie” (Jack Lemmon, Hank Azaria), “Amy & Isabelle” (Elisabeth Shue), “The Wedding” (Halle Berry), and “Before Women Had Wings” (Ellen Barkin).

Zack Booth is the Founder of Driving For Dollars Mastery, where he helps people replicate his success through real estate investing. Just a few years ago, Zack was a window cleaner. You can even find his window cleaning tutorial videos on YouTube with millions of views. He even ended up on the history channel because of those window cleaning tutorial videos. Although he achieved success with his window cleaning business, he always dreamt of being a real estate investor.

Taking a leap of faith, he walked away from window cleaning, and within a handful of years, he was making over a million dollars per year from real estate investing. Zack now has his own company, a successful podcast and YouTube channel where he dedicates his time giving back and helping others get started in the competitive game of real estate.

This year, Zack launched the Driving For Dollars Mastery podcast and it is already in the top 1% of podcasts in global popularity. Recently on his YouTube channel, he did a 40 day challenge. The goal was to turn $1,000 into $40,000, he was wildly successful, making $93,000 and also buying two rentals with over $100,000 of equity.

When he isn’t helping people make money through real estate, Zack can be found spending time with his wife and two children and hiking the mountains of the Western United States.

When you think about a work environment, what immediately comes to mind?

For many people, their work environment is a physical place -- an office, a renovated closet, even the kitchen table.

My guest today talks about another kind of work environment -- our digital spaces, where many of us spend considerable time as well.

Ian Robinson and his team at Enliven design and build highly functional, collaborative web apps for expert operational and project management processes. Ian works with established professional services firms - from construction to accounting - which have a unique worldview and proprietary operations to build a sustainable and healthy culture of expertise through the ongoing practice of product development.

While Ian’s natural bent toward process improvement and the development skills he has cultivated over the years make him an astute leader, it is his genuine desire to help companies create healthier workplaces through custom software that sets him apart from a largely sterile sector. For Ian, a successful project is one that uses software as a means of making people’s daily lives and jobs more enjoyable.

Content Anxiety Syndrome is the name of a disorder I made up to explain what's happening to a lot of people. It is yet another unnecessary and heartbreaking side effect of the Internet Age plaguing far too many amazing people who have fallen into the trap of thinking they must “make more content” or else risk irrelevance. If you are experiencing too much time on your laptop or phone making content to share on the social channels; if your kids are telling you to get off the computer; if you have headaches about or fears that somehow you aren't putting out enough content compared to everyone else, you will want to listen to this episode.

My personal experience with self-promotion isn't exactly the poster board for how to do it well.

Like most people, I'd rather spend my time doing just about anything else besides telling the world about myself.

Unfortunately, there is a direct correlation between how effective our self promotion efforts are and how many zeroes are in our bank account.

In today's episode, I share some tips about how to self promote, and provide an example of a self promotion piece I'm sharing on my LinkedIn feed this week.

You can see how I used my self promotion piece on my website here

Anthony "Tony" Wall is the founder and president of Noēsis, a non-profit dedicated to issues of human sustainability, to examine evolutionary influence upon modern behavior, and to one day free humankind from the churn of perpetual conflict. Wall, who comes from a family of nine, graduated from the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. He then moved on to Chicago, where he graduated from Lake Forest College.

Wall credits his Liberal Arts education as the catalyst for his ongoing interest in existential philosophy. He spent two decades of his career in the financial services industry. He found himself always drawn back to the study of humankind. In 2019, Wall established Noēsis. He created a series of educational videos to describe the immensity of evolutionary influence upon modern behavior. Wall describes a notable paradox. The primitive compulsions that kept evolving humans safe now combine to block humanity’s arrival into a sustainable future.

Do you remember the first time you sat down to use the Internet?

I do. I was teaching high school English at the time. It was the mid-90s and I already knew my students knew more about this wild thing than I or any of my colleagues did because I’d seen groups of them gathered around clunky laptops on the floor gawking at their screens. A palpable buzz filled the air. We all knew things were going to be different from now on. We just didn’t know how different things would be.

What didn’t happen that day was getting a pamphlet, playbook, or sheet of paper with stick figure drawings on it walking me through how this thing works.

It came with no operating instructions.

Still doesn’t. Not in any organized way, anyway.

In today's episode, I explore a leadership question that has no simple answser, but needs to be asked again and again:

How do we develop the capacity for living simultaneously in two worlds -- the virtual world (where seemingly anything goes) and the natural world (where universal laws rule the roost) so that our lives are rich, healthy, and satisfying without destroying the planet or each other?

Thanks for joining me and let me know your thoughts about the show!

These days, there’s a ton of talk about finding your purpose and then living it.

For many, finding your purpose is The Holy Grail of being human.

The challenge is, of course, life doesn’t always align in a perfect little sequence of bullet points leading us blissfully toward our why. When it comes to finding your purpose and doing what you’re here to do, discovering what that is will not necessarily be simple -- or immediately apparent.

What do you think you would do if you learned that your unborn child had a condition that almost guaranteed he wouldn't live beyond birth?

In today's episode, Ty Morgan shares his very personal leadership story which is unlike any I've heard in the eight years I've been podcasting. Ty's story is not only moving, but proof that faith exists and works in amazing ways when we choose it over mistrust and disbelief.

Faith has certainly been a central part of Ty's private and personal life. He is the Founder of Infinite Planning, where his goal is to educate and inspire individuals to take control of their financial lives through proper education and coaching methods. Ty also recently founded the nonprofit organization, Silent Guardian-Angels, Inc. something Ty never imagined he'd do but is beyond grateful he was guided to building it.

Seven months ago, my dad died.

And grief moved in.

Losing my dad is by far the most intense grief I’ve experienced. Nothing could have prepared me for it. No book or podcast or course could have taught me about what I would feel when grief came knocking at my door and moved in for I can’t possibly predict how long.

Even as time passes and the initial sting subsides, grief is always lurking in the emotional shadows, ready to take center stage and leave me sobbing in a puddle of tears because I just saw a car commercial featuring cute golden retriever puppies which were dad’s favorite breed.

Granting ourselves the space -- and the grace -- to feel grief is more than half the battle. If we could learn how to talk about it without feeling ashamed or weak, think of how much better more of us would do in all facets of our lives. If we could add grieving to the collective cultural conversation, think of how much faster our country would heal.

Colin Gray is a podcaster, international speaker, PhD and founder of The Podcast Host and Alitu, a podcast maker app. Colin started out in Astrophysics, before realising, to his dismay, how much maths were involved. A zig-zag route through education, marketing and the web brought him to Podcasting, which has less maths, but just as many puzzles and fun ones at that.

He started ThePodcastHost.com in 2011 as a resource to help people create successful podcasts. It’s now one of the biggest and oldest Podcasting learning resources on the web.

Colin went on to found Alitu.com in 2018, a web app that helps podcasters effortlessly create their shows. Alitu takes care of the tech, and makes podcasting accessible to anyone. It offers a custom set of tools for recording, building and editing epic podcasts easily.

John Mitchell teaches the “SCIENCE of SUCCESS" at the University of Texas, along with a 12 minute a day technique that typically doubles an entrepreneur’s income within a year. When John turned 50, he wasn’t as successful as he thought he should be. Then it came to him: find the top book in the world on SUCCESS and apply that book literally Word for Word to his life. That book is Think and Grow Rich, which has been read by over 100 million people. Once he did that, everything changed.

John has since gone on to develop his 12 minute a day technique which caused his income to start doubling. Within four years he was netting MID SEVEN FIGURES figures a year. Time Magazine even did a cover story on the science behind his 12 minute day technique.

John now teaches his methodology with the former Chancellor and President at the University of Texas where his technique is recognized as the “Top Application in the World” of the top book in the world on SUCCESS.

The war for talent is perhaps as fierce as it has ever been. Consequently, business leaders across the board are putting more energy into attracting and then hiring the best people for the right roles.

It's no easy feat.

Today's guest Scott Drake helps leaders make great decisions about who they onboard along with how to guide high potentials through the leadership pipeline. Scott is a sought-after consultant and trainer who made every mistake when rising through the leadership ranks. After seeing emerging leaders on his teams repeating the same mistakes, he set out to find a simpler and faster way to grow leaders. When he couldn’t find a shortcut, he invented one. His 25-year career includes stops at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington and start-ups in Silicon Valley.

A few of the questions Scott addresses include:

How can someone accelerate their growth from a role player to a leader?
Why is it essential for leaders to “lose the competency war?”
How can leaders improve their hiring of other leaders?

In 12 years of owning multiple small businesses, Sean Adams felt overwhelming stress stemming from the government and banks having control over his income. He consumed hundreds of books, interviews, and courses to learn as much as he could about finance and discovered the ultra-rich had insider knowledge about protecting and growing wealth. Sean made it his mission to distill down these secrets and make sure everyone had access to them. This led him to found Leveraged Life Management in order to help other professionals leverage a time-tested wealth-building strategy of the ultra-rich.

In today's episode, Benson Agbortogo and I talk about when he got the call to leadership and what answering that call has done for his life, along with having a few laughs about what it takes these days to build a successful business.

Benson is the creator of the Consistent Profit Tree System which helps business owners and entrepreneurs in the construction and service industry generate more profit while working fewer hours.

While living in his native African homeland, at age 13, Benson Agbortogo discovered the immense love of a wealthy God and embarked on a quest to eradicate poverty. Benson became a missionary pastor with the purpose of helping people dedicate their lives to God but noticed most people still struggled economically and lived in financial poverty.

The Lord urged Benson to seek to understand the timeless, proven, economic principles of creating wealth to help others experience financial abundance. He moved to the USA where he has earned both a B.S. in Business Management and an MBA. Since then, Benson has served business owners through his Kingdom-based consulting services. He has authored 4 books, including “The Business System That Never Fails.”

Today's guest, Paul Huszar, talks about why veterans are exceptional leaders in civilian life, with several stories that showcase this reality.

"If you value respect, showing up on time, and getting the job done right, you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone better than a veteran," he says.

This is one of the many reasons Paul founded his company, VetCor. He is the CEO of VetCor and Team VetCor, and a retired Army officer. Paul graduated from West Point and then served 23 years on active duty, including four combat tours in Iraq. He commanded a 1,000 Soldier and Airman Joint Task Force in 09-10 and last served as the Dean of the Army’s Engineer School. He retired and moved to Tampa in 2013 when he started VetCor and started franchising the concept in 2019. His passion is creating sustainable and meaningful employment opportunities, and now business ownership opportunities, for our Nation’s Heroes.

Developing the ability to improvise when things don't go according to plan alleviates needless angst and suffering. And let's face it -- the way the world is going today, we are needing to improvise constantly. Sometimes the best move to make is to drop back and punt.

  • Uncertainty and change
  • Moving forward anyway
  • Investing in yourself is the best use of time and resources
  • Answering the call to leadership is worthwhile
  • Pay attention to money no matter how good or bad the economy is doing
  • Know what you want and decide accordingly
  • Making friends with technology will serve you well
  • Take care of yourself—your mind, your body, your dreams, and your goals

Peter Docker is a co-author of Find Your Why (global sales of over 420,000), and previously a founding Igniter at Simon Sinek Inc. His new book is called Leading from the Jumpseat: How to Create Extraordinary Opportunities by Handing Over Control. Jumpseat Leadership is a way of interacting with people that will enhance performance in any given situation – during normal business, times of crisis, and life in general. Handing over the reins to others is inevitable. Everyone will eventually leave their team, retire from being the CEO, or see their kids leave home and lead their own lives. Leading from the Jumpseat enables us to embrace this inevitability. Peter believes that everyone is capable of accomplishing extraordinary things. He’s here today to talk about his book, what it’s like to work with Simon Sinek, and when he got his call to leadership.

One of the biggest myths about marketing for businesses of every size is this: marketing's job is to get someone to the point of sale and then marketing is done.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Today's guest Wayne Mullins of Ugly Mug Marketing is back for a second time to dispel this myth and share the truth about what marketing really is and how to do it effectively. If you're tired of reinventing the marketing wheel every 3-6 months and want a framework that transforms your marketing approach into results you love, grab a pen and something to write with because Wayne takes us inside his powerful system that anyone can use.

Some highlights of our conversation:

-Why so many businesses do marketing wrong (and what to do instead)
-How the latest marketing tactic is probably a waste of your time and money
-The secret to doing marketing better exists with your current customers
-How to engineer trust into your marketing efforts

Plus so much more!

You will also want to get a copy of his latest book, Full Circle Marketing, available now!

When Jonathan Baktari was arguably at the peak of his medical career as a triple board-certified physician, he saw an opportunity to try something new. Taking everything he’d learned as a doctor, medical director, and educator, he launched two businesses—a vaccine clinic and a drug-testing enterprise—that are driven by technology and designed for fast, customer-centric service. Now, as those businesses grow, he’s continuing to write his second career chapter as a health care CEO.

Dr. Baktari’s company e7 Health was named the best technology company in the healthcare space in 2019. e7 Health could best be described as “the Uber of preventive medicine” in that it is a systems company that has invested heavily in developing their own electronic cloud-based software to leverage technology for the benefit of their operation, patients, and clients. In addition to vaccines, antibody testing, and many other medical services essential to employers around the country, e7 is now providing at-home COVID-19 tests for individuals and companies all over the US. Dr. Baktari has always believed that helping others was the ultimate achievement in life. Now, as a business leader and sought-after speaker, he’s excited to share his expertise in tech entrepreneurship, COVID-19, preventative health, and many other topics with Team PYP.

Today, the growing tech group of nearly 1,000 professional black coders provides access to the strategies and techniques used to build lots of the software we all use daily. Understanding the intricate dance between software developers and business owners, Calvin wrote a book to help entrepreneurs bring their app-related visions to life through effectively communicating with developers without necessarily knowing the technical language. He also contributes to technology-focused magazines, selflessly spreading knowledge and resources to empower others.

It's what everyone wants. More happiness. More success. Today's guest, business psychologist Dr. Roger Hall, shares ways of getting both.

He has one trick: training leaders to MONITOR and MANAGE their thinking. Successful people are first and foremost disciplined thinkers. Yogi Berra was right. He said, “Ninety percent of baseball is mental. The other half is physical.”

He may not have been great at math, but he was right about successful people. Successful, happy people discipline their thoughts.

Better thinking leads to better behavior, which leads to better results. Roger focuses his clients first on their thinking. Once that is lined up, the behavior follows pretty quickly and the improved results follow shortly after. Roger has worked with little companies with only a few people all the way up to big behemoths that dominate their industries. He likes working with people who want to become the best version of themselves.

Over the last 30 years, Tracy Goodwin has had the honor of transforming the lives of hundreds of 7 figure entrepreneurs, executives, business professionals, and celebrities simply by shifting sounds that are sending the wrong message out of their voice.

Tracy’s interest in how voices are subconsciously perceived and the effect that can have on a person’s life and success started when she was a child. She was raised in a family where children were to be seen and not heard. She wasn’t really allowed to speak. But, in spite of that, she started winning speaking awards when she was 12 years old. It was the one platform to use her voice and she thrived in that space.

She went on to be an award-winning actor and director. In her freshman year of college as she was studying acting, she had a horrific event happen on stage, and in an instant, her voice changed. It was that moment that set the real stage for the work she does today, Psychology of the Voice. The Psychology of the Voice transforms her client’s voices and lives because she goes after the drivers that are in their minds and the stories they are telling. It’s those drivers that put those bad voice habits into place. We have to eradicate both to have true transformation and results that stick.

Over the past 25 years, Chuck Cooper has been involved at the ownership level with a number of companies across several different industries, but of all his work-related accomplishments, one stands above the rest. Chuck loves partnering with companies to develop their HR strategies. For him, the greatest reward is seeing clients achieve greater levels of success.

Chuck’s passion for helping to create better companies led him to found WhiteWater Consulting in March of 2019. WhiteWater Consulting defines and designs custom HR solutions that allow companies to create a positive culture, manage their expenses, and maximize their revenues. Specifically, Chuck helps his clients take care of their people through recruiting and talent management, payroll and compliance, compensation management, group health programs, corporate wellness and financial wellness plans, and much more.

To Chuck, faith and family are everything. When he isn’t working with companies to develop their HR strategies, he enjoys spending time with his grandkids, reading, photography, and college football. He has been richly blessed and happily married to Debbie, his wife of 35 years, and has three children and soon to be eight grandkids.

Amanda Clements is a Certified Professional Coach (CPC) who specializes in teaching and training the mental aspects of sports. She helps athletes perform under pressure, overcome disappointments, handle stress, and increase emotional intelligence. Her "whole life" approach can also help those who feel they are lacking direction, purpose, motivation, organization, passion and/or life balance. She has experience working with a wide range of age groups and uses mental performance techniques to help her clients achieve their desired goals.

Amanda’s twenty-year sports career includes competing as a Division I gymnast and playing defensive back for Washington, DC’s semi-pro, women’s football team. It was her own, emotional struggle with transitioning out of competition that ultimately led her to combine her coaching practice with her love of sports. She now finds purpose helping other athletes excel during their competitive careers, as well as navigate the transition into life thereafter.

Amanda graduated from Towson University with a B.S. in Anthropology and Sociology. She later completed her CPC with the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching. In addition to her work through MD Sports, she is also the owner and operator of Beyond the Game, LLC.

She lives in the Washington DC area and is here today to teach us all how to get our heads back in the game after the craziness 2020 handed us.
